2 Year Bible Reading Plan
Does it feel as though the Lord is silent. We pray and pray waiting for a response but it seems like all we hear is crickets. Sometimes this perceived silence is because we have closed our hearts, minds, and ears to His word. The response that we long to hear is found in His word and all he is waiting from us is to take the time and open up His word and read with open hearts, and open minds. How many of you struggle to read His word? Do you struggle to find time to pray and go to the Lord. There are many distractions during the day that it is easy to lose track of time, or let our focus wonder. We fill our schedules with busyness, that we sometimes lose sight of what really matters. We dedicate our Sunday mornings to the Lord and lose sight or focus on the Lord during the week.
I ask you to challenge yourselves over the next 2 years and join us in reading scriptures. Over these 2 years the elders of the church will work in helping to explain the weekly selection to help you understand so of the more difficult sections of scriptures. My hope and pray that over the next 2 years that you will develop a deeper understanding of the Lord, that His word will nourish you, comfort you, lift you up and bring joy into your heart.
As you read through the bible. I urge you to ask yourself these following questions. 1)How does this apply to the people at the time that it was written? 2) What is the Lord saying? 3) How do these passages help us to love the Lord, and to love those around us?

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.66
The lights flicker on the screen as the images move from one scene to another, captivating audiences
around the world. People just have to catch the latest episode of the newest hit series that has invaded
homes around the world. Scenes of horror, envy, jealousy, hatred, anger, and sexuality slowly entices a
captive audience. These are scenes that, if they happened in real life would make us appalled at the
language, or content. Yet, we willing watch such scenes of violence or sexuality because we say to
ourselves “This is not real life. This is just a show.”
Today many Christians don’t have the time to pick up God’s word and read it, despite living in an age
where the printed word is available to millions of Christians. These are Christians that have grown up
learning to read and write. Yet, they don’t invest time in reading God’s very word, a word that is a lamp to our
feet, that can help us navigate the trials of life. But still, we have time to watch TV, watching the horrors
unfold live. Has the modern Christian lost sight of what really matters? Back a 1000 years ago, Christians
would have loved to be able to read scriptures for themselves. Back then, the bible had to be handwritten.
There was no printing press to mass-produce the bible for millions of readers. Most, back then, didn’t even
know how to read. Today, we take for granted what so many Christians in the past would have loved to have
in their position.
We have just finished the first quarter in our 2-year bible reading plan. You have taken on a challenge to
take 15-20 mins of your day and spend it in God’s word. You are breaking the bonds that hold captive
millions of Christians today. You are willing to step away from your busy schedule, to step away from the TV,
just for a chance to read scriptures. At times, it likely felt tedious, boring, and just mind numbing. Yet, you
stuck with it. Take pride in your accomplishment. You have spent 12 weeks reading the bible everyday. Keep
it up!
I pray that the next 12 weeks that God’s word will help transform you, molding you into an image the
Jesus Christ. I pray that God’s word is a lamp unto your feet, and a light unto your path. That you find
comfort, joy, conviction, understanding, and a desire to grow more and more in the knowledge of our Lord

Exodus 33:13
Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.”
A missionary in a foreign land gathers together with a group of 22 people in a small house church. As the missionary started to hand out the bible that he had, he found out that he didn’t have enough so he asked them to share. He asked them to turn to the scripture reading for the day, and as he did, he saw an older lady hand her bible to another person to share. He asked her why she handed the bible off. She stated I know the verses already by memory. Amazed he asked her to recite the passages by memory and she did. He asked her why she memorized the passages. Her response they can arrest us and take our bibles, they can take our livelihoods, but they cannot take what we know. He asked how many had been in prison 18 of the 22 raised their hands.
As I heard this story. It amazed me that the word of God was so important to them that they not only were willing to meet risking imprisonment but they memorized what they could because the word was precious to them. We live in a land of freedom. We are free to worship, free to read God’s word. The church in America has not faced persecution, imprisonment like many in other lands do. The word is so precious to these people that they willing studied and memorized scriptures. Christian’s in America are afforded opportunities to read and study God’s word. But I wonder how many of us holds God’s word in such high regard. Do we take time out of our schedule to read scriptures. How many of us are willing to take God’s word in memory. To hold his word in our hearts and not just in our hands.
I don’t want to guilt trip you into reading scriptures. If you have fallen behind in your readings. Now is the time to get back into reading scriptures. Don’t just read scriptures to mark off that you had done the required readings. Instead let scriptures speak to you. Meditate on God’s word and allow Him to speak to you. Allow God’s word to work inside of you and transform you. Making you more and more into an image of his son.
